Threatened Species

Threatened Species: The following list includes all mammals which occur in the Ukraine and are rated as Critically Endangered (CR), Endangered (EN) or Vulnerable (VU) in the 2004 IUCN Red List of Threatened Animals

  • Critically Endangered:
    • Mediterranean Monk Seal (Monachus monachus). 
  • Endangered:
    • European Bison (Bison bonasus). (Re-introduced populations.)
  • Vulnerable:
    • Bechstein's Bat (Myotis bechsteini).
    • Bukovin Mole Rat (Spalax graecus).
    • Eurasian Otter (Lutra lutra). 
    • European Squirrel (Spermophilus citellus).
    • Garden Dormouse (Eliomys quercinus).
    • Geoffroy's Bat (Myotis emarginatus). 
    • Greater Mole Rat (Spalax microphthalmus).
    • Harbor Porpoise (Phocoena phocoena).
    • Lesser Horseshoe Bat (Rhinolophus hipposideros). 
    • Lesser Mole Rat (Nannospalax leucodon).
    • Mediterranian Horseshoe Bat (Rhinolophus euryale).
    • Pond Bat (Myotis dasycneme).
    • Russian Desman (Desmana moschata).
    • Sandy Mole Rat (Spalax arenarius). (Endemic to the Ukraine.)
    • Spotted Souslik (Spermophilus suslicus).
    • Western Barbastelle (Barbastella barbastellus).
